What's happening in each city
Nashik–Trimbakeshwar — getting ready to open
The Simhastha formally opens with flag-hoisting at both venues — Ramkund in Nashik and Kushavarta in Trimbakeshwar. Ahead of it, the Sadhugram at Tapovan is being prepared for the Vaishnava akhadas, and road and ghat works are under way along the Godavari. The main bathing days follow in the 2027 monsoon.
Haridwar — preparing for the Ardh Kumbh
Uttarakhand is preparing for the 2027 Ardh Kumbh, which the state has said will be held on the scale of a full Kumbh. Expect works along the ghats, bridges and parking areas between the Ganga's channels.
Ujjain — building for 2028
Madhya Pradesh has announced large works for the 2028 Simhastha: a riverfront ghat pathway of around 29 km along the Shipra, a permanent Kumbh city on pooled land, and a diversion to keep the Khan river out of the bathing stretch.
Prayagraj — the Magh Mela, every year
Between Kumbhs, the Sangam floodplain hosts the Magh Mela each winter — a smaller version of the Kumbh's temporary city, with a month of kalpavas by the river.

How the Kumbh moves between the four places
Four cities, one cycle
Each of the four cities hosts a full (Purna) Kumbh roughly once every 12 years, so a Kumbh of some kind comes around every few years somewhere in India.
Ardh Kumbh: two cities only
The Ardh (half) Kumbh, held midway through the cycle, takes place only at Haridwar and Prayagraj.
Simhastha: Nashik and Ujjain
The Kumbhs at Nashik–Trimbakeshwar and Ujjain are called Simhastha, after the position of Jupiter in Leo (Simha) that sets their timing.
Magh Mela: Prayagraj, every year
Prayagraj alone holds an annual Mela on the same ground, every winter.
